New Hyde Park was named “Hyde Park” by George Clark in honor of his wife, Ann Hyde. When the post office opened in 1871, “Hyde Park” became “New Hyde Park” to distinguish it from the “Hyde Park” located in the Hudson Valley. New Hyde Park was incorporated as a village in 1927. It has a total area of 0.8 square miles and is bordered by North New Hyde Park on the north, Floral Park on the west, Stewart Manor on the south, and Garden City on the east.
